Sylvester Ebhonu: Resource Person at LISCON Webinar 2024
As I sit down in this busy restaurant (8:45pm on Monday) with my laptop to prompt ChatGPT to assist me with writing this blog post, I can’t help but reflect on the paths that have led me to this moment. This weekend, Saturday 18th of May2024, marks not just another day on the calendar, but a significant milestone in my professional journey. I am both honored and excited to announce that I will be a facilitator at the prestigious LISCON Webinar, where I will lead a practical session on the Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Academic Research and Library Services.
Ok…
I thought you would be clapping now… 😁🫣👏🏽👏🏽
Anyway, let me give you further information about this webinar.
For those who are unfamiliar, LISCON (Library and Information Science Conference) is more than just an event; they provide a very ‘unique opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with others in the industry.’ Since last year, when I first learned about LISCON, what I know about their Webinar is that it is a global platform uniting the brightest minds in the Library and Information Science profession. Their Webinars precedes the main LISCON Conference, another major event scheduled for September 8th, with the theme: Sustainable Libraries: Navigating Climate Change in the Information Space.
But that’s not exactly what this post is about, right?
For me, participating as a facilitator at the first LISCON Webinar of the year will provide a rare opportunity for exchange of ideas, strategies, and visions for the future of librarianship, especially now that AI is becoming a very valuable tool for work and research productivity. The focus of my session will be on the need to work smarter, not harder; some practical and creative ways AI can be applied in academic research and library services; I will also discuss some responsible use concerns and engage with participants to hear their perspectives.
If you have read up to this point, I know your interest in registering for this webinar will be developing right now.
So, if you haven’t registered yet, consider this your personal invitation to join the webinar. The deadline is fast approaching, and I encourage you not to miss out on the opportunity to engage with me and other great scholars who are equally passionate about the future of librarianship.
I must express my deepest gratitude. A huge thank you to the President of LISCON – Prof. Airen Adetimirin for this opportunity, and thanks to Dr. Ayo Alonge, I am inspired always by role models like you in our profession and I know many others are too.
Every time I get opportunities like this, I am reminded that teaching is also a form of learning. It’s one of the main reasons I am eager to share my knowledge and equally excited to learn from the experiences and interactions I will have with participants.
I am looking forward so much, to meeting many of you virtually this weekend. We can make this a Webinar to remember, right?
